This book sets out a new reconstruction for the Semitic case system. It is based on a detailed analysis of the expression of grammatical roles and relations in the attested Semitic languages and, for the first time, brings typological methods to bear in the study of these features in Semitic languages and their reconstruction for proto-Semitic. Building on the success of the Philology in Hebrew Studies program unit at the SBL, this past year, Eva Mroczek (UC Davis), David Lambert (UNC Chapel Hill), Laura Quick (Oxford), and I decided to launch an international working group, Renewed Philology, with an advisory board and website as a way of systematizing and publicizing our efforts.
